Process Containment

Rheo has managed the material handling requirements for many pharmaceutical operations. Our familiarity with the equipment used in these processes allows us to provide single use containment isolators around this equipment. Containing the dust at the source of generation is the first step in a proper containment strategy. Single use containment isolators can be a great option for containing dusty processes.

Mini-Roller Compactor

Mini-Roller Compactor

Containment of a mini-roller compactor is provided by a flexible enclosure surrounding the compactor head while leaving the related motors, controls, and other components outside of the enclosure. A portable stainless steel frame and containment attachment flange is provided for attachment of the flexibles. Sleeves and bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) kits are provided for moving product and supplies in and out of enclosure. RheoPacs and Continuous Liners can be included for contained charging and discharging product.
Lab Scale V-Blender

Lab Scale V-Blender

Containment of a lab scale v-blender is provided by a flexible enclosure surrounding the entire machine. A portable stainless steel frame with a containment pan is used to attach the flexible enclosure. Sleeves and bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) kits are provided for charging, collection of product, and moving product and supplies in and out of enclosure.
Tablet Coater

Tablet Coater

Containment for a tablet coater is provided by one or two separate flexible enclosures attached to stainless steel containment flanges. One enclosure contains the pan access door and the second (optional) the exhaust filter access door. Stainless steel frames are used to attach the enclosures and bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) kits. Each enclosure is designed to include necessary gloves and bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) sleeves for a fully contained operation of the tablet coater.
Fluid Bed Dryer Granulator

Fluid Bed Dryer Granulator

Containment of a Fluid Bed Dryer Granulator (Glatt GPGC2 for example) is provided by two enclosures that allow for access to the dryer granulator bowl and the filters. Two flanges are added to the equipment that allow for attachment of the flexible enclosures. Cantilevered frames support the enclosures while offloading the dried powder and changing the filters. RheoCrimp technology is used for containment of the powders through a bag-in/bag-out BIBO kit and used filters during separation. The frame can be designed to be retracted and collapsed for storage.
Automated RheoPac Filling

Automated RheoPac Filling

This system offers an automated or semi-automated filling of RheoPacs using a Rheo Drum Inverter and disposable funnel liner to transfer powder from drums into a range of RheoPac sizes. The optional 4 bag carousel cart allows for easy rotation and filling of the bags with an integrated transport cart for moving the RheoPacs into the process area.
RheoPac Dispensing

RheoPac Dispensing

The Rheo Column Lift can be used to lift the RheoPac carousel off of the transport cart and into position above the receiving vessel. The carousel design allows the operator to rotate from RheoPac to RheoPac to quickly unload multiple bags with a single lifting and positioning operation. Our automation control systems ensures reliable and accurate position of the carousel system to reduce operator time in the handling process.
Weigh & Dispense System

Weigh & Dispense System

This Material Transfer Station is designed to help operators transfer material out of drums using a small footprint workstation that incorporates a Drum Tipper and Ventilation Sleeve for minimal dust during weigh and dispense operations. An integrated weighing module holds the RheoPac on a frame that is isolated from the workstation and sits on load cells to provide excellent weighing accuracy.
Tray Dryer Flexible Containment

Tray Dryer Flexible Containment

The stainless steel portable frame supports a two section flexible enclosure for unloading trays and dispensing them to a Continuous Liner weighing station. The front section of the enclosure accommodates the outward swing of the tray dryer door while being able to collapse inward for easy tray unloading access. It is attached to the tray dryer using a stainless steel flange attached to the tray dryer around the door opening. The weigh and dispense section of the flexible enclosure provides an area for unloading the trays and disposing of the empty trays into an attached trash sleeve. The end portion incorporates a Continuous Liner for contained dispensing into a drum or other package on an independent scale frame. Other than the tray dryer flange attachment, the enclosure is six sided and supported with bungee style connections. Numerous glove sleeves are included to assure easy access to critical process areas by operators.

Fitzmill D6 Containment System

Fitzmill D6 Containment System

The stainless steel portable frame with a containment tray provides support for the Fitzmill and the flexible enclosure. The five-sided enclosure with multiple glove sleeves is hung over the mill from bungees, for ease of movement, and attached to the containment tray. A 23” diameter drum attachment ring with single use drum sleeves is used for the contained dispensing of multiple drums into the enclosure. A cartridge style HEPA filter is mounted on the frame and attached to the enclosure with a tri-clamp connection. The filter provides sufficient air flow for proper operation of the mill. A discharge funnel is built into the containment tray with a Continuous Liner system attached for contained discharge of milled product from the enclosure. The Continuous Liner system and the drum sleeve separation uses RheoCrimp technology for efficient repeatable contained transfer of powders charged and discharged through the containment system.

Tablet Press

Containment for a tablet press is provided by a combination of several separate flexible enclosures attached to stainless steel containment flanges and pans. Portable stainless steel attachment frames are provided for each of the flexible enclosures. One enclosure contains the press while the others contain tablet testing, metal checking, and tablet discharge. Each enclosure is designed to include necessary gloves, bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) kits, and continuous liners for a fully contained operation of the tablet press.

Dust Collector Enclosure

Flexible enclosure to house a small dust collector. The enclosure is used to remove the dust collected for accountability purposes, all while maintaining containment. Filters can be disposed using the bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) sleeves.

Pill Testing

This enclosure is used to contain the equipment used in testing sample pills in process development from a tablet press. The flexible enclosure features a zipper to set the equipment inside and a bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) port to bring items in and out of the enclosure in a contained manner.
Benchtop Weighing Isolator

Benchtop Weighing Isolator

This flexible enclosure can house a small scale to subdivide API into smaller containers. Bag-in/bag-out (BIBO) ports are used to bring items in and out. A spray wand can be used to wet surfaces after use. The gas tight zipper helps to set up items before the API container is opened.
Overdrive Comil Isolator

Overdrive Comil Isolator

The two-tier stainless steel portable frame supports upper and lower flexible enclosures for charging and dispensing from an Overdrive Comil. The design incorporates dynamic negative air flow using a RheoFan unit with HEPA filters. This negative air flow provides containment protection from possible breeches during processing as well as reduces the amount of powders inside the contained areas. The upper contained area is provided with a Bag-in/Bag-out (BIBO) kit for contained introduction and removal of powders to be processed and waste materials to be removed after use. The lower contained area is provided with a gas-tight zippered door for introduction and removal of bins to be charged from the mill. Both upper and lower flexible enclosures are provided with multiple glove sleeves for ease of operation and misting wands for cleaning and misting of equipment and enclosure before removal to minimize airborne particulate.
